Endurance Clinic
Amy reported we had four entries so far and that the entry form was on the web.

We reviewed Drin’s outline for the endurance clinic and discussed start times and the length of time for each class. We decided to propose to Drin that the clinic (advertised as an 8:00 start time) actually start at 8:30 a.m. to allow people to settle in, and that each class be 45 minutes long, to allow time for questions and discussion, and that the order of the classes would altered a little. We discussed the proposed order of the clinic as follows:
9:00 - 9:45 a.m. Presenting Your Horse to the Vet - Liz and Juli
9:45 - 10:30 a.m. Camping and Horse Confinement - Anne
10:30 - 11:15 a.m. Rider Etiquette - Drin and Louie
11:15 - 12:00 noon Taking Care of You and your horse during ride - Louie & Heidi
12:00 - 1:30 p.m. Lunch and Vet Check your Horse
1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Before, During and After the Ride Panel
2:15 - 3:00 p.m. Heart Rate Monitors, GPS and other gadgets - Susan
3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Mock Endurance Ride
5:00 p.m. Potluck and discussion.
We decided that the next meeting would be moved to Thursday, April 17th and that at that meeting, speakers should present an outline for their class as a means of helping them prepare.

With respect to the classes and content, we decided to ask Susan if she would loan heart rate monitors to clinic riders and to add “taking care of your horse” to the class by Louie & Heidi

Steve pointed out the most intimidating parts of the endurance ride are the vet checks and the start. We agreed that at the beginning of the ride, the ride leaders should discuss the start.

Amy said she would call the insurance company about insurance for the clinic.

Liz and Juli said that set up would be anytime after 1 p.m. on Friday, April 25. Liz said she has chairs and will check with the Fire Department about tables. Juli invited Liz and Sheri and anyone else interested to come help mark the trail for the mock endurance ride on Friday. Amy provided the posters and invited everyone to put them up around town.

Membership
Ellen said the membership packet she read contained just the basic stuff. She said we had two new members and that the membership fee was $15 in the person is not an AHA member and $10 if the person is an AHA member. Ellen said she would add the new members to the membership roster that AHA maintains and that she would find out how to add a non-AHA member to that list. If the person is on the AHA list, then they get an automatic notice when they need to renew their membership. Sheri asked that Ellen send her the e-mail addresses of the new members so she could add them to the distribution list for meeting notices. Ellen said she would do that and that she will keep researching how AHA handles family membership.

Recreational Riding Program
Juli talked about having a club recreational riding program in addition to the distance program and that the club could simply incorporate the AHA program for logging the miles. The club member with the most recreational miles could get special recognition through the club and might encourage outlying members to challenge each other to see who could get the most AHA recreational riding points. Sheri said she would research the fees for joining the AHA program.

Website
Amy said there have been some problems with the layout of the buttons on the website and that she would look in to fixing that.

Pioneer Cabin Ride
Sheri said she hadn’t confirmed that James can be one of the vets for the Pioneer Cabin Ride and that she will continue to work on that. Amy noted that we need to update the forms for the ride with the new dates. Liz said her husband’s skidsteer would be available for the ride. Sheri would help with the secretarial work.

Juli reported that the Ham Radio Club was interested in helping with the ride and that they need jobs. We decided they could be positioned in base camp and in the out camp and strategically placed at gates. They could help spot riders and call back to camp with the order of riders at certain points so people at base camp could have fun tracking who was in the lead and in various placings, and that there could be a bulletin board on the order of go. They could also help hand out water and help with the gates and keep the water troughs full. Juli said we needed more (about 10) big water troughs. Steve and Kathy indicated they had one or two.

Juli talked about the vet checks -- one at 15 miles, another check after the second 15 miles, a third check or at least a trot out after the next 10 miles -- and she wondered if there should be fourth. We decided to think about it and perhaps just let Bill decide.

We talked about starting to collect little prizes for the ride. The meeting adjourned.
